PLAYING WITH FIRE: Dramatic Volcanic Vibes

The Power of Nature Combined with the Power of Art.

Playing with Fire by Louise Brook (2024) is a dramatic trio of works inspired by the volcanic eruption in Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula in May 2024. The spectacular, vivid images beamed around the world demonstrated the startling yet beautiful ferocity of this natural geological event, capturing the artist’s imagination and compelling this artistic response.

The composition and bold design of this original mixed media work is striking from a distance, while closer inspection reveals exciting nuances delivered through a rich textural surface full of hidden details and depth. Black is not just black, “magma” crackles ominously under the surface and layers of mixed media and collage throughout deliver visual surprises and glimpses into the creative journey.
